Belleville Area Humane Society (BAHS) is a 100% donor funded 501(c)(3) limited admission animal shelter operating on an appointment only basis in order to offer the very best in customer service to adopters and community. BAHS provides a curated boutique-style experience where every customer receives our full attention in order to help match with the purr-fect fur-ever pet. In order to secure an appointment, please fill out our adoption application and our placement team will reach out to schedule an appointment.

Q: Who do I call about abuse/neglect/abandoned animals?
A: St. Clair County Animal Control handles all cases. They have licensed animal control officers. If they are closed, the sheriff handles situations.

Q: Are you a no-kill shelter?
A: We are a limited admission shelter. This means, we only euthanize if an animal is severely ill or unsafe to put out in the community. We do not euthanize for space.
Q: Do you have space for my dog or cat?
A: The BAHS is committed to helping animals either surrendered or not reclaimed at St. Clair County Animal Control. We have a waiting list for owners who wish to surrender their pets. With limited kennel space, we work with pet owners to provide resources that help individuals keep their pets, when possible.

Q: Do you have puppies?
A: Dogs under six months are kept in foster homes for their health. They are susceptible to getting sick at the shelter since they are not fully vaccinated. They can be viewed on our web site when they are available for adoption.
Q: Does the BAHS provide spay/neuter or vaccinations?
A: Yes, we have partnering vets who provide spay/neuter opportunities for qualifying individuals. For more information, please contact our Outreach Manager at outreach@bahspets.org or 618-235-3712 ext. 100.
Q: How does your adoption process work?
A: Complete our adoption survey either online or in person. It typically takes 24-48 hours to process. We will work with potential adopters to have all family members (including existing pets) meet the pet of interest. Once meet and greets are complete, an adoption counselor will walk you through the adoption paperwork and provide continued animal ownership resources.
